When you don't have time to think about what you are saying, and simply let the words pour out unchecked and full of emotion, you are liable to make statements whose conclusions -- in hindsight -- you may not agree with yourself.
Imagine a politician speaking to a buddhist or a muslim in a public hearing saying something like the following:
"It is dangerous for our children to even know that your philosophy exists."
I suspect that it would be in the local newspapers the next day. In fact, a politician did say this to someone, but nary a thing has been printed (from what I understand). Some suspect this is because the target was an atheist.
